Bio
Ten Things To Know About Me At A Glance:
1. I do not Twitter. And I don't read or reply to folks 'Twitter' feeds that show up their
Journals. If you can't take the time to write and read complete paragraphs then you don't
want to be on my friends list or for me to be on yours.

2. I do not stay 'cutting edge' on tech. I was burned too many times in the past and can't
afford to play that game in life. So, we don't own an HD TV, we don't use Blue Ray
(it's useless without an HD TV. When Apple includes it on computers and it can be both
read and written to then I'll consider it, otherwise it violates the fair use of
having backups of what you have paid out money for).

3. I used to be a PC user, from when DOS replaced CP/M as the main operating system on
personal computers, through to Windows XP. I do not want the nightmare that is Vista,
and don't want it even if they repackage it as 'Windows 7 or 8'. It prevents you from
getting the full capability from your machine. I own a MAC and it dual-boots the current
OS X and Windows XP Pro when needed.

4. I like to organize myself in one place. If you have a dozen different places I have to
go to to read what you write, talk about or have interests in, then I'm the wrong person
to put on your friends list. Make yourself accessible but organized. I don't FACEBOOK,
MYSPACE, etc.

5. I am here for sharing. This means talking, in text, back and forth in journals. I'll
listen to the occasional voice post, but if that's all you do, write me off now. Same
with folks who don't want to read what I write but are just here to promote themselves.

6. I treat folks as equals until they prove otherwise and I expect the same. You may know
more than me on a subject or have had different experiences, but I at times will know
more than you or have had different experiences. All are valid, but I expect treatment
as an equal unless I prove myself otherwise (and the same will be said of you).

7. Don't start an argument and expect me to play by 'rules' or 'debating concepts'. If my
personal experience is different, and not necessarily scientific by your standards, it
does not make it invalid. Only in mathematics can you find perfect scientific results,
and even that can break down under quantum mechanics in some situations.

8. Don't try to get into religious debates with me or tell me my religious faith is wrong,
unscientific, invalid or crazy. I am a bit tired of Atheists who try to press their
beliefs on me and on the world as much as I am of Christians, Moslems, or other faiths
that try to do such. I am flexible withing certain limits, but the moment you preach
at me I will have a tendency to make judgement based on your beliefs (or non-beliefs) and
may tune you out if you are trying to convert me to your point of view. If your religion
believes its ok to kill, torture, rape, carry out slavery, declare their lack of a soul,
declare them second class citizens or imprison other people sorely upon their religious
beliefs in any way then it is wrong and not something I am interested in.

9. At least half of what I write in my Livejournal is boring day to day activity stuff.

10. I believe that there is a natural need for fun and personal exploration in life. I am
not a a nose to the grindstone kind of person, nor am I a complete flake and wastrel.
I tend towards caution in how I spend money, so I don't jump on every fad culturally
as it comes along. If I say I'm not interested in something it's likely that either I have
tried it and didn't like it, saw it and wasn't excited, decided it was too expensive
compared to what joy it might bring me, or took too much time or space. Some things I
will revisit long after they are popular.

Who is this strange guy?

I'm a writer, of sorts, and have been since High School (when I got my first publishing credits). I don't write because it makes money, I write because I can't imagine not writing.

I dabble in the visual arts, such as painting and digital photography, and enjoy the artwork of others. I also, in my younger days, dabbled in theater arts and amateur acting, but that's pretty much in the past.

I'm a tabletop roleplayer with three decades of experience in a wide range of systems, and far too opinionated and in some ways picky about what I play, where and with who.

I do some game design, and run the fantasylibrary.com website (part of our Naughty Faerie Productions) as a not-for-profit independent project to make gaming accessible and affordable. Take a look at the gaming areas of my website for details and downloadable creations of mine.

I'm married, and spend large parts of my time managing my wife's personal affairs and helping her achieve her own dreams. I manage her household in a variety of ways.

I'm Neopagan, and have been since the mid 80s, but have had bad experiences with some of the more organized groups out there so I tend more towards solitary practice with my wife. Labels don't work well here and tend to fall off. Let's say I've studied a lot with a lot of folks, have a personal draw towards Greek Divinities, appreciate a sense of humor and perversity, and dislike the involvement of large amounts of money in practicing my faith.

I have a great interest in fantasy and science fiction, and have been a regular speaker at Arisia in years past (but have not in 5 years or so). I also regularly attend HRSFA's Vericon convention, and operated their con-suite/green room for 2 years (2006,2007) as food coordinator.

I'm open minded about sexuality in many directions, and peeved by politicians who make a name for themselves by trying to deny the rights or identity of others. Actually, I get peeved by a lot of politicians. I'm big into personal freedom in general.

My wife and I are polyamorous (She's bi and I'm straight) I am NOT into BDSM, orgies, rampant partner swapping, etc. We're into warm friendships, committed relationships and sexual spirituality. It's not that I have anything against folks who are into these things, it's just not me.

I have weird and diverse tastes in music, art, theatre, movies and reading. These will become obvious as you get a chance to read what I say about them.

I have some annoying medical conditions which are aggravated by stress, sitting too long, walking too much, standing too long, etc. This means I can't hold down many "standard" jobs that require one to either stand around all day or sit behind a desk all day. I need to be able to make my own schedule when it comes to moving around or not or I'll find myself prone or doubled over in pain etc.

Besides Live Journal I can also be found now on Blogspot :

Terrors Of A Midnight Mind which is an all public blog, without all the personal life stuff, and also minus the news commentary, sex related posts and anything that might possibly see publication in the future. Mostly its about roleplaying design observations and some reviews.

Posts there are few and far between these days, as it is not a good medium for feedback.

Sex Filter : I post sexually oriented short stories, poems and discussions under a Sex Filter for those on my friends list. If you want to read them, you must OPT IN to do from one of the Filter Warning Messages I post regularly. Anyone younger than 18 cannot Opt In (and probably isn't reading me normally anyway!).

News & Politics Filter : I regularly post articles, links to articles and clippings from various online and offline news sources to discuss with folks. These include a healthy dose of politics, and also a healthy dose of 'Weird News' from places like the Fortean Times. This is another OPT IN filter, if you don't ask to get on it you won't see the posts. This is primarily because I have some readers who rather not know what is going on in the world, don't want to discuss such, or think that there's just too much of such material going around on LJ and they see enough.

Copyright, Usage, Etc. Notice:

Thanks to recent controversy on LJ on this subject I thought I should post a polite note regarding the material in this journal. I don't want to get into a battle of words, posts or other nonsense like I've seen in some friends journals and communities.

Anything I write in a public journal entry is public and can be quoted as needed by anyone else who is a member of LJ for point of discussion in their LiveJournals or LiveJournal communities. You have my permission, feel free to do so, so long as I equally have the ability to comment or quote any post by you in discussion of what I have written in similar form. (Fair is Fair).

If you want to publish something commercially, talk to me (email me) about it. I do retain copyright to what I write.

Anything I write in a Friends Only or otherwise Filtered post in my journal that you have access to, which is not specifically a meme, or marked for passing around, and which is not specifically reference material of a non-personal nature (such as a link) should be considered to be between me, you and the other folks that have access, unless I post otherwise or distribute it otherwise in a non-limited access (such as a community). It should not be reproduced on another journal, taken out of context, published without permission being requested, etc.

This is because I occasionally produce articles, stories, and poetry that I put in my journal for limited critical peer review (that's you folks) that may eventually be published elsewhere. It's not because I suspect I say a whole lot of interesting things that you can use to make a hit tv series or change the course of history etc. It's also because I do things like occasionally give out contact info (phone number for instance) that I don't want to find all over the Internet in the hands of spammers and telemarketers to drive me mad with. I retain copyright and distribution control of all private and filtered entries.

If you don't know which is intended, ask. I don't bite (usually). If it's not about my family, love life, health or an embarrassing personal life experience, I'll probably give permission for reasonable use.

Anything you write to me in a comment on a friends only or otherwise filtered access post will eventually be tucked away in my personal archive of the journal (as will public comment posts). By commenting you are giving me permission to save what you said, in context to a post. I promise that I will hold any personal contact information, etc. within reasonable confidence and not use it in any way to cause you harm.

I have no intention of any commercial usage of anything that is commented at me in my journal. I will delete spam, sufficiently offensive or blatantly illegal posts (public or private) from my journal. In the end I will decide what will remain visible in my journal (and I always screen anonymous posters).

I reserve the right to decide who is on my friends list and who is not. This means that I do control who can access a post, since I control the filters and access system. Sorry, but that's how LJ works in general everywhere. I rarely de-friend people, or ban people from any access to my journal. In the end, it's my party.

That's probably the best way to deal with my journal, consider it a private party or discussion at a coffee shop. I reserve the right to ask folks to join or leave. I presume most of what is said is held in some confidence among those privy to what is said, and that confidence continues whether you stay or go.

Occasionally I pass along clips from news articles and other materials I find on the net. I do not claim any copyright ownership of such, and generally are clipping them for information purposes from public outlets like truthout.org I share these for discussion points, you're welcome to pass around the links to the original sources. Our discussions (comments) of these are generally under the auspices of being friended and thus not to be spread around without permission, to ensure that everyone stays happy and secure.
